In collaboration with The Danish Cancer Society we have designed and developed a new platform to assist healthcare professionals in their work detecting brain tumors in children and adolescents.

Challenge

Brain tumors in children and adolescents are difficult to diagnose because the symptoms can be vague and often attributed to other, more common conditions. Therefore, there was a need to develop a support tool for healthcare professionals to support them in making decisions about when to refer children and teenagers with symptoms for further evaluation, as well as when not to suspect a brain tumor and instead monitor the situation.

Solution

The solution was to build a new platform designed as a support tool with a clear overview of the symptoms of brain tumors in children and adolescents. The tool consists of detailed information about each symptom and a decision-making tool to assist healthcare professionals in determining whether to refer the patient for further evaluation or monitor the situation. The tool is designed to be used in both consultation scenarios and for more in-depth research on symptoms. The platform is developed in direct collaboration with Danish oncologists and has been user-tested with the general practitioners who will use the tool in their daily work.
